I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone

Curated by Lyndsay Pomerantz, with works by Tommy Chain, Catherine de Montreuil, Scott Kemp, Michael Lachman and Graeme Wahn

‘I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone’ is the first installment of a multiple city exhibition being held in Winnipeg (Aceartinc. Flux Space - 290 McDermot Avenue, August 28-September 4) and Vancouver (Avenue, September 24-30).

The works included in 'I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone' are produced from the desire to conjure the experience of distance by responding to the prospective journey, the site of the exhibition, and an a priori relationship between the artists. They develop their understanding of Winnipeg, Manitoba through means of documentation and research, correspondence, hypotheses, and storytelling.

Employing photography, sculpture and video, notions of the unknown are confidently asserted obstructing one’s ability to differentiate between fact and constructed narrative. Replication is used to trouble the recognizable and extraneous steps are taken to add layers that further heighten one’s awareness of what they should or should not believe.

'I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone' presents the work of a diverse set of artists currently developing their practices in Vancouver.
